Fix: YouTube Playback Speed Control option is missing on TV

Downgrade YouTube on Chromecast

In case you cast YouTube by using an Android, you have to downgrade YouTube on the device. In such a way you guys will also have to disable automatic Google Play Store updates, additionally, Google Play Store will update the application to the newest build, thereby nullifying this workaround.

  1. Open the Settings menu on the device.
  2. Head to Apps > See All Apps. Choose YouTube from the list.
  3. Drop to the end and click on App Details. Now you guys will be taken to that application’s Google Play Store page.
  4. Click on the overflow icon located at the top right & now uncheck Enable Auto-updates.
  5. At the time when it is completed, you have to then head back to Apps > See All Apps. Choose YouTube from the list.
  6. After that, click on the overflow icon situated at the top right.
  7. Choose Uninstall Updates > OK in the confirmation dialog box.
  8. Verify if it rectifies the issue of missing YouTube Playback Speed control.

Downgrade YouTube on Android Smart TVs

  1. Firstly, Google Play Store on the TV and open Settings.
  2. Go to the Auto-update applications section.
  3. Choose Do not auto-update applications.
  4. At the time when it is completed. Go back to the home page of the Google Play Store.
  5. Open My Apps and choose YouTube for Android TV.
  6. Choose Uninstall Updates > OK in the confirmation dialog box.
  7. Verify if it rectifies the missing YouTube Playback Speed control.
